It may be a Boulderdash clone, but Herman doesn’t let that get in the way of collecting flowers and avoiding rocky death. Frockin’ sweet.

Also, did anyone else delve into a local library or friends’ bookshelves in hopes of finding “shareware books” like Windows After Hours? Some of my fondest, randomest gaming memories come from such occasions.

All I can think of is the guy from Twisted Metal when I see that face.

Holy crap I remember this game, that creepy clown Herman face still haunts my dreams.

Oh yeah, I used to go up to the public library all the time looking for shareware books with disks. Sucked when sometimes the disks were missing or unreadable… I still go out of my way even these days to pick up shareware compilations on CD, I have a small (maybe 7 or 8 boxed) collection of compilation discs.

My first on the Mac side would probably be the Mac Shareware 500 book, full of shareware reviews with an accompanying disk. First on PC was probably one of the early Galaxy of Games. I think they’re still making Galaxy of Games discs.

My introduction to shareware was a 20-games disc when I was 11 or 12 years old, after which I started getting more such discs, the occasional issue of PC Gamer, and then I eventually got my 2000 Shareware Games CD… so I never actually grew up with those kinds of books; I kinda didn’t need to.

Plus I had relatively early access to the internet since mid 1992 and I spent a lot of time browsing what few shareware websites there were for shareware gaming goodness. One such site I fondly remember presented all of its games and stuff as book spines on bookshelves! : )

  6. Man I love those frockin’ 90’s websites. Sadly there are few and far between 😦
But this is the curse of user friendly homepage building tools. Frock!

Hey, this is kinda odd to ask, but do you play Tribes: Ascend? I once saw a guy under the name “LazyGameFreak” during a few rounds of CTF.

I asked mainly because of the uttering of “shazbot” during this video, even though it’s from Mork & Mindy. 😛

FYI: do you know that “Frock” in French (at least in Belgium) means pants.
Yes, I wear a “frock”, which is my jeans today 😀
