Whoa it’s pinball, in 3D! And it’s not just pinball, it’s ULTRA pinball. If that’s not a surefire recipe for success, what is? A review of Sierra’s “fastest pinball in space” from 1995.

  1. I always play with myself multiple times in a row. Oh wait…

I hope you do a review of 3d ultra minigolf too, that one was a childhood favorite of mine.

I was half-expecting the end-show message to say “…to see more games with balls.” ; D

Watching the ball/paddle physics in the video, I think the trouble you were having with them is because it looked like a very shallow incline in the physics model, which when done with a real-life pinball table causes the ball to accelerate very slowly, to the point where it tends to “float” when it goes from one side of the table to the other. The flippers also had a very sharp angle of attack, which always bothers me. I much prefer flippers that only have a small angle of attack, not just in computerized pinball games but in real life too. : P

    • That sounds like a pretty accurate assessment. The later 3DUP games addressed this at least somewhat, as I don’t remember those physics being nearly as annoying and wonky. Considering their previous pinball games were pretty simple 2D tables, I can imagine it must have taken some experimentation to get things right.

I hope you will play with your bro other more interesting pinball games (and any other) than this. If your bro doesn’t usually live in the same house with you, than, tough luck. Btw, what do you think about Adventure Pinball: Forgotten Island ?

Ahhh that pinball game that came with Windows….many days in class were spent on that thing instead of being bored to death in class. Too bad Windows 7 doesn’t have something like that anymore. That was an awesome game to kill time with.
